Prof Michael Avidan, Washington University

Michael Avidan,MBBCh, FCASA, is  the Chief, Division of Clinical and Translational Research in the Department of Anesthesiology (DoCTR)  and a Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at Washington University. His research interests include intraoperative awareness, postoperative cognitive alteration, brain monitoring during surgery, and postoperative outcomes.

 

Prof Alison McGregor, Imperial College London

Professor Alison McGregor PhD, MSc, MCSP, is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Biodynamics and Director of Educational Strategy and quality in the Department of Surgery & Cancer, and Director of Undergraduate Science in the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London.

She has more than 135 publications of original articles being published in peer reviewed journals (including Spine, European Spine Journal, British Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, Gait & Posture, and Medicine & Science in Sport and Exercise) covering research fields of Low back pain, Elite Performance, Musculoskeletal Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Osteoarthritis. She has led a multicenter randomized clinical trial that has won both international and national prizes and recently led and published a Cochrane Review.

Her research focuses on the musculoskeletal system with respect to mechanisms of injury; effects of injury on function and management of injury. To date her work has largely focused on the lumbar spine by considering its function to be a composite of interacting systems including a passive or skeletal system which permits segmental joint motion; a muscular system which provides the muscles to create motion these body segments; and a control system (the central nervous system) which co-ordinates the muscles and body segments to produce function with a variety of projects in these areas.

Alison was one of the investigators in the Medical Engineering Solutions in Osteoarthritis Centre of Excellence Funded by the Wellcome Trust and the EPSRC led by Professor Ross Ethier where she led an initiative into the use of technology to further rehabilitation of this common disease process [http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/osteoarthritis/objectives/objective9].

She currently leads the Rehabilitation Theme of Imperial’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies working in collaboration with clinicians at Headley Court and currently supervises a PhD student working on Smart amputee sockets and one working on the prevention of osteoporosis in above knee amputates  

 

Prof Cyprian Mendonca, University Hospital Coventry

Prof Mendonca a consultant anaesthetist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, Honorary Associate Professor at Warwick Medical School and Featherstone Professor of AAGBI (2016-2018).
His interests include head & neck anaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia and medical education. He has taken lead role in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. He has designed and delivered several national educational meetings. He organizes human factors and airway training at Coventry and have set up state of the art Coventry Airway skills Laboratory. He has co-authored six books in anaesthesia, written chapters and published several research papers related to airway management.
